Old decks don't just look bad - they become a real problem. The paint was peeling off in sheets, the boards were rotting through, and the steps were rough enough that getting on and off the deck wasn't exactly safe. That's what we were working with when this lakefront cabin project landed on our schedule.
We tore everything out and started fresh. New decking, new railings, and a completely redesigned staircase that made getting up to the deck far easier than before. We also pulled out the old concrete entry steps and replaced the whole entry approach - something that made a big difference in how the front of the property functions day to day.
One of the bigger changes here was adding a walkway that runs along the side of the cabin out to the deck. That kind of access improvement doesn't always get a lot of attention, but it matters - especially on a lakefront property where you're hauling gear, furniture, and everything else back and forth all season long.
On top of that, the new deck faces the lake head-on. That view deserves a space that's actually worth sitting on. Fresh lumber, clean railing lines, and post cap lighting details that finish the whole thing off right. It's the kind of result that makes you want to pull the chairs out and actually use the space.
Projects like this are a good reminder that sometimes a repair isn't enough. When the rot is deep and the layout isn't working, a full rebuild is the smarter call - and the end result speaks for itself.
